Bob Vylan Faces Backlash Over Pro-Palestine Chants at Concert
British punk band Bob Vylan is facing criticism after performing at Glastonbury. During their show, the crowd joined them in shouting “Free Palestine” and also chanted “Death to the IDF,” which stands for the Israeli army. This caused a lot of anger and led to a police investigation.
The UK Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, reacted to the chants. The police are now checking if anything illegal happened during the event.
After the concert, the band shared a strong message online. They explained that they do not support hate against any group of people. Their message focused on stopping war and violence. They believe in peace and want the killing to end.
Bob Vylan believes they are being blamed unfairly. They think people are ignoring the real problem —the suffering in Gaza — and blaming artists instead. They wrote that others have been targeted before, and they are just the latest example.
The duo explained they are not the main issue. In their view, the government wants to shift attention away from the war. They want people to ask why leaders are not helping to stop the violence or to feed those who are hungry.
The band also encouraged others to speak out. “We are being targeted for speaking up. We are not the first. We will not be the last. And if you care for the sanctity of human life and freedom of speech, we urge you to speak up too. Free Palestine.”
Many leaders and pro-Israel groups found the crowd chant offensive. They believe it was too extreme. Still, the band insists their aim is to support justice, not spread hate.
In the past, other musicians and groups have also faced backlash for supporting Palestine. Bob Vylan said they won’t stop talking, even if it brings trouble.
They believe more people should care about what’s happening in the world. To them, it’s not just about music. It’s about standing up for what’s right.
